We’ve asked some old hands what they wish they had known before attending a Jamboree, here is their response...
DO – avoid disappointment, apply early - NORJAM 06 was oversubscribed
DO – make sure your young people bring the full kit list so they can do all of the activities which come their way. This includes:
- Swimming kit including towel
- Old T-shirt and old trainers/plimsolls for water activities
- Sun Cream and Sun hat
- Waterproofs and wellies
- Long sleeved top for Archery
- Sports kit - no black soles
- Long trousers (jogging bottoms are good), long sleeved top and gloves for Dry slope skiing and climbing.
DO – make sure you have a packed lunch available to send out for off-site Activities, including a drink (at least half a litre each).
DO – make sure lunch is flexible as young people will drop in and out as they move between activities, so the opportunity to gather everyone and all sit down together is generally not possible.
DO – encourage young people to try as many activities as possible, at least 50% of their fee is spent on providing them.
DO – expect to see little of your group, but have someone available for when they buzz in and out.
DO – make the activity team aware as soon as you can of any special requirements for your contingent – they will provide as many opportunities as possible for your members.
DO – complete the day trip paperwork in advance, this will speed your exit from the site and extend your day out.
DO – encourage everyone to check the website regularly for updates on activities and trips.
