Norfolk Showground History

The Norfolk Showground dates back to the 1800s. For many years the Norfolk show moved locations thanks to the support of landowners with parkland sites but for the past 40 years, time and money has been devoted to the creation of a permanent showground. The Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association made its initial purchase of land at Costessey in 1952, with the first show held on the site in 1954.

Today the Norfolk Showground is a business in itself with a separate operating company and more than 120 events a year taking place that vary from large corporate gatherings to small livestock shows and Scout & Guide Jamborees every four years.

In 1908 the Showground was granted the great privilege of the Royal prefix by King Edward VII. The Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association made its initial purchase of land at Costessey for its permanent showground in 1952 and the first Royal Norfolk Show was staged on the site in 1954. Since which time a great deal of time and money has been devoted in creating and improving a permanent showground.

Norjam 2010 will be the 13th Jamboree and will once again be held at the showground. Norjam 2010 plans to be bigger and better than ever before!
